Pałac w Dukli

ongoing restoration works

In 2017 works began to be carried out by conservators on the elevations of the two side buildings. They took samples and removed the newer layers of plaster and to see what was underneath. The works uncovered that the original plaster facade was painted with illusionistic decorations “Polychromes” which date back to the 18th century.

There are very few examples of late 18th century illusionistic painted buildings remaining in Poland and these discoveries are indeed very unique.

Buildings renovations over the last few centuries have hidden but most importantly preserved the original artworks, which allows the buildings to be restored to their original 18th century look.

The photos show a few examples of the original artistic decorations including illusionistic windows. You can also see an artists visualisation of the original designs.

The building was covered with stripes on the ground floor, painted window borders and frames on the first.

Conservation works are ongoing and will be divided into two stages, firstly uncovering the original polychromes and preserving them. Secondly restoring the facades to their original 18th century design.

In 2022 works restored a small segment, so now we can visualise how the buildings originally looked.
